Bright Light
By Elena Matyas
As we shared Roxie’s name with family and friends for the first time, there would always be a pause. But I don’t remember anyone being bold enough to ask how we came up with her name.
On December 5, 2012, Doug & I sat in the maternity wing of Huntington Hospital looking through the list of 38 names we had been considering for our baby girl over the past six months. It was game-time – we needed to make a decision.
We narrowed it down to 12 or 14 names!
Doug was stuck on “Roxie.” It’s uncommon – which we loved. And I wanted something –Belle – Annabelle, Isabelle, Lulubelle. Then we looked up the meaning: star, bright, dawn. Our decision was made. Our “Mirabelle” (beautiful girl) became the light of our lives with a name to match.
